“They’re Sleeping on me, so I wake them up every time,” said Donald Harper, Humble High School senior football wide receiver. Harper is looked at as the underdog because of his height, but he likes being the underdog because he proves everyone wrong.
Harper transferred to Humble from Stephan F. Austin High School. He started working out at Texas Footwork with Darren Hendricks his junior year and says that Coach Darren has helped him improve ever since he started working out. “Darren pushes you. He gets you comfortable being uncomfortable,” Harper said. “If you are not comfortable doing something, he makes you repeat it over and over again until you are good at it.”
Working out with Darren helped the drills at school come easy to Harper because he had the experience and more practice than the other players.
The recruiting process for Harper has had its ups and downs, but that does not stop him from working hard. He has gotten a couple offers and is ready for more. Harper said the most important factors he looks for when choosing a school are how the coaches treat the players and if they have a good offense.
It’s been about ten years since Humble High School has been to the playoffs. “My goal is to help get the team to the playoffs for this one last ride,” Harper said.
